Most every one likes to collect things, and most anything is collectable. People collect everything from, beanie babies, records, cars, and art, and more off beat things like refrigerator magnets.  This year Lively Dance takes a look at our collections with Lively Dance Concert 2014, Collect ‘Em All.  The show is a fun, entertaining, one-hour dance concert.  Dance styles include Jazz, Hip-Hop, and Modern. Ms. Lively collaborates on Collect ‘Em All with her husband Tony Jillson, who has composed music for the show and provides technical and artistic support.

This year Lively Dance is celebrating it’s 17th season. Lively Dance is an after-school dance program which local choreographer Martha Lively began at the Heath Elementary School in 1997. This year Ms. Lively, in collaboration with Principal, Lynn Dole expanded her program to Mohawk Trail Regional High School, offering both dance and exercise classes. Most recently she choreographed for the Select Chorus at Mohawk. Ms. Lively continues to teach in other hill town schools and in Northampton at the Northeast American Dance School.

This program is unique in that it brings quality, affordable dance instruction to rural communities. By traveling to these communities and offering dance in after-school programs, she is able to bring dance instruction to those who would not be able to participate due to travel, time or financial constraints. The program’s emphasis is on building confidence and socialization using the techniques and the language of dance. The goal is to promote collaboration; and teach basic techniques and terminology. Classes for pre-K through Adult are offered.

Martha Lively is a local dance artist who grew up in Heath, MA. Ms. Lively received her Associates in Performing Arts from Dean College, Franklin Ma.  She moved to New York City in 1988, she continued her dance training. Among others, she studied under Alwin Nikolais and Murray Louis, Michael Owens; and at the Laban/Bartinieff Institute in Movement Analysis.  In 1993 she co-founded “Kids Community Dance Project” and “Movement Together” which were recognized by the New York State Department of Health as “outstanding programs that involved the community with dance.”  In addition to forming after-school programs in Western Mass, she has performed in New York City, Northampton, Boston and Providence.
